School of Larrikins is our way of working with aspiring authors to smash (and survive) the slush pile! If you want to know exactly what we’re looking to publish and what makes a Larrikin House title unique, School of Larrikins is for you!
We want to publish fun, quirky, edgy stories that push boundaries and challenge stereotypes.
Hear directly from the publisher and other creatives as we help writers pitch, structure, refine and write Larrikin-style stories for our growing Larrikin tribe.
We prefer a relaxed style of presentation (some people even wear their PJs) where we not only provide you with industry information, but encourage you to participate by sharing your writing journey or asking questions. There are not many opportunities for writers to speak directly with the publisher! Being in one of our workshops is a unique experience!
Be warned: we always go over time, there are always plenty of laughs and James is only ever one joke away from getting cancelled.
Many of our alumni have started their own writing and critique groups. There’s nothing like finding your writing tribe!
Writing on Brand
Our Little Larrikins know what they want! They seek out our stories for humorous, engaging reads that inspire and entertain.
Sometimes, it’s hard for adults to shake off the ‘grown-up’ factor and write for this audience. School of Larrikins will guide you step-by-step in creating the books our readers love! This is not a generic how-to class, nor is it for the absolute beginner. We suggest this class is best suited to aspiring authors with an inkling they would like to produce quirky stories, have read a selection of our titles and have covered the basics of writing for children.
